The End Of The Term

Today is our last day in leader ship and communication class I have so far learnt a lot about the river and learning hoe to test what the river was like. I have thoroughly enjoyed this term. I have learnt a lot about the river and cleaned it up and what we can do to avoid it from being polluted and how we can also get the word out to the community.
I would like to say a big thank-you to Mrs. Hansen for being our teacher this term as I thought that I have learnt a lot from her this term and she has really helped us to get the word out to people about the river all over the world. As a sum up I think that we have made a impact to the community and also to the people at school and even people around the world.

Today We Did........

Today our class was writing to five different newspapers as we are now trying to get the awareness of the community. This is where we can step up and tell the truth about the river and let everyone else know what is happing to the river. We are also going to be setting up an assembly for our school and show them what we are doing to help the river and possibly how they can also help us to keep the river clean.

What We Did Today

Today our class is deciding to go on a trip to Wellington and go into parliament.
Today we watched an expiring video called “An Inconvenient Truth” it was a really great movie about Al Gore and his truth about global warming and he is getting the awareness out to everyone.
Our class will be going to Wellington next week on the Thursday and we will stay the night and a hostel place.
We will be also watching in parliament as they will be having a meeting on the Thursday and hopefully will have a good look around parliament.
Our class has achieved a lot this term and hopefully we will be able to clean up the river for good and have no more pollution left.
Next term when we finish on the river we will be studying the cinema and trying to get it up and running again which will be very exciting.

Busienss Visiting

Today the 1st of June we went to Hautapu Pine and Byfords Readi-mix to investigate on there pollution.
We found that Byfords Readi-mix do not pollute the river as they recycle there concrete and it gets turned into builders mix which them gets sold.
The Hautapu Pine was very interesting we were told how the pine is treated and what are the steps that it has to go through. The pine gets put into some large tunnels which are enclosed, the pine then gets steamed up to be prepared for the chemical treatment before the pine is allowed to then be sold on. We were also told that the water that drips out of the pine goes into a pond which then gets cleaned out every three years and the overflow from the pond then goes into a stream which then goes into the Hautapu river. We were also very concerned about the bark peels that get dumped into the paddock that is next to the Byfords Readi-mix. We found out that they have a recent so they are allowed to dump it there but it is still a damage to the river.
I found this trip interesting and found out a lot of information.

River Investigation

Today the 25th of May we went down to the river to test how badly polluted it is. We come up with some really good things to see if our river is clean our dirty. We also found some bugs which indicate how dirty our river is with a scale of one to ten. We also took some tests of the river and we will get them sent away to see how bad it is. I also took the temperature of the river and found it to be 10 degrees. We were testing the clarity and flora of the river and lots more. Our water testing kit was from horizons and we would like to thank them for lending it to us as it was a lot of help.
